I was talking with a friend recently about how premarital sex effects dating relationships. I want to know what you think about the subject matter. It seems that when in fairly serious dating relationships, the fact that one has had sex with the previous significant other bothers the partner. But, what about it is bothersome? That is something that I would really like to understand. Yes it bothers people, but why? I can think of a few reasons, but I wonder if there is something else. Does it just bother the partner or does it bother oneself as well? What exactly does the non-virgin label carry with it? A nonchalant mistake? An act of love? Does this act of love ever lose significance? If so, when? Does premarital sex show dedication or rather lack thereof? What changes emotionally, spiritually, physically occur once one loses his/her virginity? Does it matter if on honeymoon night or some other time? How does it make the partner feel? Isn’t that the goal anyways - to give something special to somebody else? So what makes something special and what makes something typical?

My time spend in the morning service at McLean Bible Church this morning brought to light my self-centered nature. Watching the handicapped gave me some insight into myself. How is those with so much less than me can seem so much more happy? That is counterintuitive as defined by today’s society. Maybe I have it all wrong like the catiplillar in “Hope for the Flowers” by Trina Paulus.

This song truly is a desire of mine. In today’s world, purity seems to be something condemned rather than revered. Well, I believe this is an entirely misguided preconception. The reason purity is not respected is because so many have failed, and those that have failed wants others to be weak in a particular aspect of life just as they didn’t have. Well, I know I tremendously respect those who live a life of purity. And no matter what anybody says, don’t give in. You aren’t “missing anything”, you don’t “need practice”, and sex doesn’t show somebody you love them – it shows that you love yourself and are self-centered around your own pleasure.

Even though I’m not married or anything yet. This song portrays the desire of a husband to love his wife. Since I’ve been known to handle relationships quite horribly, this is something I truly desire. When the time comes, I want to be able to give the girl everything she deserves and much more. I want to be able to show a true and unquestionable love with a level of integrity that will prevent any doubt for creeping into anyone’s mind.

This song comes from a very young girl - 15 years old. Yet this song seems to speak to so many people on so many levels. I feel like we all can relate to what this girl is saying. I got to see her debut this song in Charlottesville in March. I was taken back then by the relevance this girl has to our everyday struggles.

This song reminds me to never give up. I think sometimes it is too hard to follow my convictions, or part of my life is out of control. Well, I can find reassurance in knowing that God is in control of every aspect of my life, and that if I let him control it, I won’t steer my life into disaster after disaster. God knows how much hardship I can take, and He will allow hardship simply because it makes me stronger in the end, not because I deserve some punishment. When God is in control, what looks bad in the end turns out be one of the greatest parts of life.

Colorado was a lot of fun and a lot of work. We spent at least 10 hours a day working on our projects and learning. Then following that was another 5 hours + of hospitality. Hospitality just means that there is open bar all night long. Then when that shuts down, the partners open up their suites until everything has completely died down.
